Popular Mum blogger Christie-Lee of ‘Mum. That’s a Bad Word.‘, recently completed one of our classes. Read on to see what she had to say about her experience, and why everybody should book in to do a class!
CPR KIDS!
I had NEVER thought about doing CPR before, I was ignorant to the fact that so many things can go wrong in our own homes and trusted that I was pretty on the ball with this, after all, I HAVE managed to keep all of my kids alive and poison-free… for the most part.
After yesterday I feel equally ignorant and enlightened!
We all know the common dangers that lurk behind each pool gate and locked cleaning product cupboard doors but it’s the dangers that lay in plain sight that I tend to overlook.
I had no idea how to dislodge a grape, the most common food kids choke on, from a baby’s throat. It’s unpleasant and even hitting Annie the dummy yesterday felt so violent and took a lot of force, I thought I knew.
I did NOT know!
But Annie is ok, she’s ok, your ok Annie…
I did not EVER think of how a small child could drown in an esky at a party full of over 60 people standing just meters away or how a toddler could drown in a dogs water bowl in 30 seconds…
They can and they do…
I DID, however, know not to put toothpaste on a burn but quickly learned that MANY people, including my own dear offspring Tigah Rose, thought it was a good idea… No, I am not joking, it’s insanely common… and Tigah is one of those people 🙄
I did know that as parents we are biologically programmed to sense something is wrong with our children I didn’t know that we have the right to invoke Ryan’s rule if Dr’s won’t listen to us because we know when something is wrong with our babies, we just know.
I feel so much more confident in how I would respond in an emergency situation, I could go on and on because the class was fun, interactive and set out in a way that was easy to absorb the information without feeling overwhelmed and the educator Jessie was amazing!!
CPR KIDS was actually created and is run by a group of Paediatric nurses that empower people all over Australia with the skills of baby and child CPR & First Aid and I think, no, I KNOW, everyone needs to take this class if they have children it could literally be a lifesaver!
Follow CPR Kids and check out their classes and oodles of life-saving info on their FB, you will be enlightened!
Have you done CPR?
