Is daycare not chopping the grapes? Send them this.

We often get asked by concerned parents/carers, what they can send to daycare/playgroup etc. when they have seen little ones served up popcorn/grapes and may not have the confidence to speak up, or are worried that their voice hasn't been heard when expressing these concerns.

Choking prevention and first aid for babies and children is something that we are all aware of at home – but what about at daycare?

We wanted to share a throwback to when our fearless leader Sarah Hunstead represented CPR Kids at the NSW Department of Education’s ‘Supporting Children’s Health Workshop’. Why? Because the video/resources are available for you to watch and share.

We often get asked by concerned parents/carers, what they can send to daycare/playgroup etc. when they have seen little ones served up popcorn/grapes and may not have the confidence to speak up, or are worried that their voice hasn’t been heard when expressing these concerns.

The video (which can be found in the NSW Government Early Childhood Education resource library) provides guidance on recognising and responding to fever in children, and prevention strategies and first aid for choking incidents and head injuries.

Although this video does not replace a face-to-face class, it is a great refresher or a reminder, especially if you have concerns that your child’s daycare may be unaware of certain dangers – including how to prevent and respond to an emergency situation. Those who view the video will:

  • Learn life-saving skills of baby/child first aid
  • Understand common first aid situations and how to recognise early when something is a bit more serious
  • Learn how to manage fever, including febrile convulsion
  • Learn how to identify when a child is choking, and how to administer first aid to a child that is choking
  • Understand the importance of supervision and risk management

Please feel free to reach out to us if you need further information or resources to help you find your voice/be heard when it comes to sharing this essential knowledge.
